Mage Mail

Mage Mail is a party game for 1-4 players, with fast-paced gameplay that pushes you to your limit. You and your friends must work together to process parcels in this underground post room and handle packages with care; they could be cursed!

As the technical designer and scripter for this project, my role was to help determine desired aesthetics and design the gameplay mechanics to encourage these; as well as creating the mechanics in Unreal Engine using Blueprints to a high standard of usability for both the development team and players.

Key Features

Controller Support - a flexible controller support system allowing single or split control, no fixed player numbers or required 'Player 1', reset and ready up functionality.

Gameplay Mechanics - the systems behind the gameplay have been designed to scale up/down with new mechanics/features allowing for the project to be scaled easily without needing systematic restructure. This was achieved through the use of inheritance along with gameplay tags across the different machines and scoring systems.

The gameplay follows the processing are parcels, which will need to be taken to various machines, each with a unique interaction.

Pacing in the game is controlled through items spawn rate, processing complexity and backlog limitations. I balanced each variable across levels, with variations for different player counts.
