Key Features

Guidebook - this UI element consists of sections holding different types of information.

The notebook supports the player to track their observations and their progress in identification.

The collections page shows the collected mushrooms and provides motivation through discovery and challenge.

The game world is a small glade, containing 16 unique species of mushroom, each with different life stages. They each have different spawning conditions, based on their real-world counterpart.

Research and Testing

Research into industry standard practices and UI design theory.

Analysis of UI in existing games of this theme.

Application of design theory to the design of in-game UI.

User testing was a huge part of this project, influenced by Moreno-Ger et al.'s research on usability testing.

Formal analysis of gameplay recording was performed on some session, using events to identify strength and weaknesses.

Casual testing, with questionnaires was used to gather data more quickly.

Change lists were created based on testing and massively shaped the development of the UI.
